Surrogacy FAQs

What is the difference between Traditional and Gestational Surrogacy?
Traditional Surrogacy is where the Surrogate is both the Egg Donor AND the Carrier. Her egg is fertilized with the Intended Father's or Sperm Donor's sperm via Home Insemination (HI) or a clinical Intrauterine Insemination (IUI). She is biologically related to the child(ren) she carries for her IPs.
Gestational Surrogacy requires the Surrogate/Carrier to take medications (intra- muscular and subcutaneous injections) and go through either a fresh or frozen embryo transfer. The embryos consist of either the Intended Mother's or Egg Donor's egg that have been fertilized by the Intended Father's or Sperm Donor's sperm. This process is carried out in the clinical setting of a fertility specialist (reproductive endocrinologist). She is NOT biologically related to the child(ren).

How do I know which kind of Surrogacy is right for me?
Many couples/individuals choose Gestational Surrogacy in order to alleviate the complications that can arise when it comes to the delivery of he child(ren) and birth certificate. They feem more secure not having their carrier related to their child(ren). Many choose it because they want to move forward with the frozen embryos that they already have or would like to create specifically for a surrogacy.
Most couples that choose to go the route of Traditional Surrogacy have comes to terms that the Intended Mother cannot carry her own child(ren) and is secure with having another woman not only carry them, but be the egg donor as well. Financially, it is a huge savings to the Intended Parents to choose Traditional as opposed to Gestational Surrogacy.
Whichever route you take, these women are caring and loving and above all else, want to be able to help you create your family through surrogacy. They are dedicating a great deal of not only their time, but their family's time as well, to help you.

Once I have decided that kind of Surrogacy I would be interested in, how do I decide whether or not I go with an agency to assist me, or to do this on my own?
Surrogacy is a very detailed journey. There is a lot to make sure one must cover. Without having been down that road before, many people are just not aware of what could happen, and what to look out for before, during and after their journey. We have both been anonymous, semi-anonymous, and known egg donors multiple times, as well as Traditional and Gestational Surrogates multiple times. We have personally carried baby(ies) for International, Traditional, and Same-Sex couples, as well as Individuals. We have seen both good and bad surrogacy journeys. Through all of these experiences, we have gained an incredible amount of knowledge about surrogacy, and what WE can do to help you experience this wonderful journey with relative ease.

How do you find your surrogates?
We advertise on surrogate message boards, such as Surrogate Mothers Online, All About Surrogacy, and TASC. We also place ads in college, parenting, and fertility publications and websites.

Do you accept all Surrogates that apply to your agency?
No. We do not take Surrogates that have a criminal or psychiatric history. Nor do we take Surrogates that will not submit to a criminal background check or a psychiratic screening. We require all Surrogates to be able to obtain a release from their OB to move forward with another pregnacy, as well as obtain copies of their pre-natal and labor/delivery records.

How do you choose a surrogate that is right for me?
We only offer you profiles of Surrogates that fit what you have described in your profile. The main criteria we want to consider are selective reduction, termination, pre- and post-birth contact, and finances. We want you and your Surrogate to complement each other, to have the same desires and expectations during this journey.

What kind of time frame should Intended Parent(s) plan on to be matched with one of your surrogates?
We have matched Intended Parents with their Surrogates within a week and up to four weeks. A lot depends on the criteria you have set for your Surrogate, and whether you want a Traditional or Gestational Surrogate.

What happens if we go through this process and do not achieve a pregnancy with our Surrogate?
If you do not achieve a pregnancy with your Surrogate, we will provide you with another Surrogate at no charge. We want you to be successful in this endeavor, so we will do what we can to help you achieve the family that you have set out to build.

What happens if there are any disagreements or other issues between the Intended Parent(s) and the Surrogate?
As you will have agreed in your contract, you will come to us for any mediation. We will do everything in our power to make sure that your journey is a pleasant one, and that you and your Surrogate have a loving relationship built on trust and honesty.

How do we know that our Surrogate will get paid everything she is supposed to and who does it?
Once you are matched with your Surrogate, you will have your contract drawn up and reviewed. Once it has bee signed by both parties, we will receive a copy of the contract, as well as an abstract that details what payments are due and when they are due to the Surrogate. The contract will stipulate the amount of monies to be deposited into the Escrow account, and at what times more monies will need to be deposited to replenish the account as monies are paid out to the Surrogate. You will receive a copy of the statement from the bank, as well as a detailed statement showing what each payment was for, and the date it was paid.

What if we need to contact someone on the weekend or in the evening?
We are available 24/7 for our Intended Parents. We work the *off* hours to make sure that you have whatever you need and to assist with any issues you are having. If our schedule allows it and you desire, we would be more than happy to visit you in the hospital during or after the birth of your baby(ies).
